SOCIAL SKILLS AMONG UNIVERSITIES OF VETERINARY MEDICINE AND PSYCHOLOGY OF A HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION IN UNAÍ, MINAS GERAIS

Abstract

The present study had as objective to analyze the social skills among university students of the course of Psychology and Veterinary Medicine of a Higher Education Institution in Unaí, Minas Gerais, in the model of the Five Great Factors. The Social Skills Inventory (IHS) was used to measure social skills. The sample consisted of 123 questionnaires of which only 100 were considered valid with mean age of 23 years (SD = 6.09), and 72% were women. The IHS score was compared by courses and genres. In the comparison between courses, both presented higher mean in self-affirmation dimension in the expression of positive feeling, Psychology presented (M = 4.01) and Veterinary Medicine (M = 3.89). In the analysis by genders the two groups showed the lowest mean in the self-assertion coping factor with the risk, male (M = 2.97) and female (M = 3.00). However both groups are within the population mean.
